20/02/20 The ground-breaking project consists of the development of a new system for measuring environmental electromagnetic radiation, for personal use.

The system operates exclusively by harvesting environmental energy, that is, it feeds off the electromagnetic radiation itself without using any kind of battery or external power source.

This results in an efficient system for using energy that is environmentally friendly and a device with an unlimited life. In this way, an efficient energy utilization system is achieved, one that is environmentally friendly, and a device with an unlimited lifespan. The project includes all the necessary electronic elements and their integration in a device that informs the user in a clear and simple way about the electromagnetic radiation to which they are exposed.

This technology aims to provide an immediate and automatic response to the information required by legislation (Royal Decree 299/2016 of July 22 and Directive 2013/35/EU of the European Parliament) regarding the protection of workers’ health and safety against risks related to exposure to electromagnetic fields, which could pose a threat to their safety.

And this is because, due to changes in everyday habits, the use of technologies (mobile phones, radar, cell towers, wireless communication systems, etc.) that emit ambient electromagnetic radiation is becoming increasingly common.

In this context, Pranan Technologies is going to develop an ambient energy harvesting system to power a device that automatically and in real time measures the radiation to which people are exposed.

This three hundred thousand euro project, endorsed by CDTI last June, is framed within the “S3 sector of renewable energy and resources,” as it aims to develop the market’s first radiation measurement system based on ambient energy harvesting. This promotes efficiency in resource consumption, reducing environmental impact through the use of innovative products and processes.

About CDTI. The Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology, E.P.E. (CDTI-E.P.E.), is a Public Business Entity under the Ministry of Science and Innovation that promotes innovation and technological development in Spanish companies. It is the entity that channels requests for aid and support for R&D&i projects from Spanish companies at both the national and international levels.
